WOW we had such a great time at the Way out west ranch. Our guide explained every detail to us so we could have a great ride. She helped the kids out and made them feel like a part of everything. The ride was amazing. We were followed by several dogs who were very well behaved. Turns out they are all rescues, some of the horses and the dogs too. What a great place to spend a day. All around good people who support the community. If you are going to spend your money on a horseback ride, spend it here. These guys are the best around. You and your family will feel safe. The two hour ride sounds like a long ride but it actually perfect. It goes by fast and you will wish you had more time with those gorgeous horses.
we recently purchased 2 rides on groupon for $69 along with another couple. Upon calling for a reservation I was informed that there would be a mandatory $10 per person gratuity. We showed up prior to 8:00 am as instructed. Shelby was there saddleling up the horses. There were six fleabag dogs running around and they actually accompanied us on our ride. One was limping due to an obviously infected rear paw. We asked Shelby if they knew about it and she said they were aware. Shelby told us each of the horses names and gave a brief outline of of each of the horses habits. We departed at 8:20 am and arrived back at the stable at 9:24 am. Barely an hour. The ride was supposed to be an hour and a half. The ride itself was very nice. Hundreds of saguaro cactus and nice views. The guide, Shelby, didn't do any narrating at all. All she did was ask if we were ok now and then. There was another couple in front of us & she talked mostly to them. A few time she slowed down so we could catch up. We only gave a $5 per person tip as we felt the guide wasn't even worth this much. The place is 6 miles off the main road on a very rough dirt road with no signs indicating that you are headed in the right direction. Very poorly run. Nice ride if you are only interested in riding for an hour!
This was my second time horseback riding and my husbands first. It was a great day, the sun was warm and the ride was beautiful looking at the mountains. The wranglers were very nice and told us the history behind each horse. When I say this ranch was way out of the way I truly mean way way out. You follow a dirt road for 6 miles( in a car it's alittle bumpy). The horses were just wonderful, responded to every command. Even all of the ranches dogs came along for the ride. The only negative thing was that we paid for a 90 minute trail and it was only an hour;-(
Took a fabulous ride over the weekend with my daughter. Our guide was Sue, and she helped us feel completely comfortable on our horses. Initially I was nervous about the ride, and also the size of my horse. With a one on one lesson I finally started to relax, because I saw how easily my horse responded to all my commands. The trails are absolutely gorgeous and have never seen an area in Tucson like it. We felt safe and left the ranch with a whole new perspective on horses thanks to our fabulous guide.
This place has lots of decent horses. They have rides for all levels. Beginners and also Advanced. Short and long rides. I think riding out by the old ranches and desert scenery is really beautiful. Wranglers are very nice and seem to know what they are doing. It isn't just riding in the dried up river bed (wash), but real trails on decent horses.Their website says you can stay there in your RV too (though I imagine this is extra). I believe there may be some groupon or such type coupons for the rides. When we have family or friends here, we send them up there to ride even though it is further from us as this is better than the east side place in our opinion and less "about the money". It is a bit off the beaten path though.
