Near the small parking area are several historical markers detailing the history of the area and some of the people involved. A gazebo houses a computerized index of the graves and maps to find them. Simple enough. There is one road entering the cemetery from the main thoroughfare. This loops around several time inside the cemetery. Some of the graves date back to the late 1700s. If you are from around here, you'll probably find a relative here. At the top of the hill, you can see for miles.
Having visited -- and enjoyed -- Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah during my spring break vacation, I figured it was about time to visit the oldest cemetery close to me.Parking lot's not very big, but during my hour or so walking around, I was the only person on foot. Saw maybe two cars drive thru. So not very busy.Saw plenty of interesting ornamental work. I wasn't looking for anything or anybody specific, but there's an electronic kiosk for folks who need help. Also, the cemetery is A LOT bigger than it looks from Dixie Highway. I thought I'd be in and out of there in like 20 minutes. Nope.
