We take the kids every year to look at the Christmas lights. It's nice unless the person behind you don't shut off their headlights or you are behind a diesel truck!
When we have out of town ers visit, this is a must see. It is located right in the middle of town and is our community water supply. However, it hosts concerts, festivals , etc. There are pavilions for picnics (can be reserved for private events, reasonably priced), walking trails, paddle boats, historic one room school house and log cabin. There are several playgrounds for children and fishing is available. It is scenic as well. In the winter, it is the setting for "Christmas in the Park", one of the largest Christmas light displays in the country. Yep, I love this park!
Many lovely light displays. Many more than Brandenburg, Kentucky with the lake as a backdrop for many. After Christmas however many were not lit and it would have been nice to see them all. The advertising was more prominent than those at the Riverside Park in Brandenburg which was a bit of a drawback. At the B.burg display the central focus is the Christmas display and then we notice what advertiser put it there. Many at Freeman Lake were very imaginative and incorporated much more than just lights. Some were really beautiful and many celebrate the true reason for Christmas. Well worth visiting.
Everything a park should be ~ large lake, play and picnic areas, shelters, boats to rent, fishing, beautiful scenery, and a great Christmas light show. I really appreciate the 5-mile running/walking trail ~ pretty well marked, challenging, and scenic.
Freeman Lake is where all the locals go year round to not only fish, but to take their morning runs & long leisurely walks around the paths. Lots of geese & ducks so watch where you step. Lots of parking!Check their site for yearly events such as their 4th of July fireworks and their Christmas lights show (wind through the paved road in your vehicle :-) Many other events/races etc throughout the year!Beautiful fall colors and picture worthy settings, covered areas for family/business picnics, etc.Enjoy!
The setting was good. The lake was pretty. But the trails could be paved to avoid getting muddy. And the trash cans could be changed more, especially after a windy day that tipped some over.
Great trails for running. They are well maintained and always safe. It is a relief to have something like this in Elizabethtown!
I have been coming to this park for over 25 years now. I love having someplace the family can go to enjoy being outside.
Paths are nice for a stroll and there are children's play areas. Benches here and there. The trees and other vegetation are not inspiring.
The park has had a lot of improvements over the past two years. They have nice barbecue facilities for cook outs during the summer. Christmas time is awesome when you can drive thru at night time and see all the dioramas that have been built by local businesses and don't forget to sit your radio to holiday music.
This is a place that is nice for family outings anytime of the year, but the light show at Christmas time is spectacular.
i liked to quietness but didn't enjoy the duck poo all over lol. sometimes people can be nosey but other than that they are nice.
Nice area to do just about anything. There are several parks with plenty of gazeebos and picnic tables. There is a fishing pond along with plenty of areas for joggers, or those who want to enjoy the scenery at a more leisurely pace. There is also a disc golf ( frisbee golf) course as well. Although bring extra frisbees just in case. Depending on the course, there are some areas that are near alot of trees. A great place to spend a sunny afternoon.
We are new to the area and I was looking for a place nearby for some easy access paddle boarding. Freeman lake is perfect. Close to everything yet peaceful and safe. Lots of wildlife. We always see grounds keepers and the police officers who patrol it are friendly and helpful. Happy to have a place like this right down the road.
5 miles of trails. Some gravel, some blacktop, and some dirt. Pedestrians walking have right of way. Great views with lots of ducks and geese. Places to cook, and some historic sights. We biked and it was moderate due to hills and tree roots. Some people fishing and some in paddle boats.
